Manchester United's chances of signing Edinson Cavani from Paris Saint-Germain are next to zero even if Angel Di Maria does move to the French club.
Reports on Tuesday claimed the Argentine international has agreed personal terms with PSG and the two clubs are now in talks over a fee. PSG are prepared to offer €60million (around £43million) for Di Maria.
But speculation about a move to Old Trafford for striker Cavani is a non-starter claims Le Parisien journalist Arnaud Hermant, who broke the Di Maria story earlier this week.
"Di Maria is on track," said Hermant.
"A swap involving Edinson Cavani and Angel Di Maria? There will be no exchange. Cavani is untransferable.
"PSG will buy Di Maria. The player has agreed with PSG to come. The priority of the club is that he will play there. Negotiations are being held with United."
Cavani is being seen as a replacement for Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao two of last season's strikers who have now left Old Trafford.
Should a United move fail another possibility is Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. The Poland international could be on his way out of the Bundesliga side after falling out with coach Pep Guardiola earlier this year. However, his agent Cezary Kucharski told Polish TV that Lewandowski would only move if a huge transfer fee was involved.
"I think it would have to be an extremely high offer, definitely higher than €50million [£35.5million].
"A player with Robert's class may in the future move to one of only two leagues: England or Spain – and only with the consent of Bayern Munich."
Van Persie Snubs van Gaal
Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie handed out the plaudits when he was unveiled as a Fenerbahce player on Tuesday. But it was more noticeable in the one person that he failed to thank – United boss Louis van Gaal.
Van Persie was welcomed by 15,000 fans at his official presentation on Tuesday. The 31-year-old thanked the United squad for their appreciation of his efforts at the club over the past three years. He also took the mic to thank "one more person". But it wasn't manager Louis van Gaal he thanked but executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.
"I highly appreciate the work of Ed Woodward in this transfer," he added. "He was the man who was very classy in all this. A true gentleman. Ed, if you are listening or watching, thank you!''
Van Persie is believed to have been instrumental in persuading van Gaal to move to Old Trafford last summer. But the striker lost his place in the starting line-up before the end of last season leading to a rift between the two men.
The former Arsenal man moves to Fenerbahce for a fee believed to be £5million.
Hammers Keen On £9m Hernandez
West Ham United are ready spend £9million to bring Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez to Upton Park. Metro newspaper quotes a source to the London club as saying the Mexico international has a style of play the Hammers are looking for.
Hernandez has also been linked with interest from clubs in Spain as well as MLS newcomers Orlando City. Any move is likely to wait until he has recovered from an injured shoulder
