Mohammed Morsi, the former president of Egypt, has been sentenced to death today along with 100 other people over a mass prison break in 2011.

Morsi is already serving a 20 year prison sentence for the unlawful arrest and torture of protesters while he was in power.
In July 2013, amidst intense protesting in Tahrir Square, the Egyptian military removed Morsi in a coup d’état. Since his arrest the governing authorities have banned the Muslim Brotherhood and arrested thousands of Morsi’s supporters.
Morsi also faces separate trials over leaking sensitive information, fraud, and insulting the judiciary.
