A female suicide bomber, believed to be just 12-years-old has killed 16 people in northeast Nigeria, a local government official says. 'The suicide bomber... detonated her bomb in the market at Wagir village' in Yobe State on Tuesday said Nuhu Hassan, an official from the Gujba local government area in which Wagir is located. The girl arrived on a motorcycle and walked to a crowded section of the market to detonate the bomb, according to Hassan. About 30 others were heavily injured in the attack, the official said. The blast comes a day after two girls carried out twin suicide bombings in another town in the region, Maiduguri, killing 32 people. Nobody has claimed responsibility for the attacks, but the Islamist terrorist group Boko Haram, which has carried out similar attacks in the region, is suspected. Last week Boko Haram extended its suicide bombings to neighbouring Niger and Chad. Both countries, together with Nigeria and Cameroon, have formed a military task force to combat the Islamist group. |
