Enugu governor, Chime’s impeachment: Speaker wins another round *Court grants G-15 access to Assembly

A giant stride towards the impeachment of Enugu State Governor, Mr. Sullivan Chime, was recorded on Monday morning with a legal reprieve for the 15 anti-governor lawmakers to have full access to the Enugu State House of Assembly complex.
The Assembly, where the lawmakers had begun the process last week, has been under lock and key, with policemen mounting guard within its precincts and preventing members from entry.
But, that obstacle was removed this morning, on the orders of the Federal High Court sitting in the state.
The court, presided over by Justice D.V. Agishi, ordered the police to vacate the entire complex and not be seen anywhere around it except at points determined by the Speaker of the House, Hon. Eugene Odo.
The order subsists pending the determination of a suit brought by the Speaker, on behalf of 15 members of the House who issued an impeachment notice against Chime last week Monday.

Agishi, while also restraining the police from curtailing the personal liberty of the Speaker, further ordered that the G-15 members should be allowed to have access to the legislative complex, particularly the chambers.
The orders, which were made via an interim injunction, following a petition brought by the Speaker on behalf of the group pursuing Chime’s impeachment, would subsist till May 19, 2015, for further hearing. Joined in the suit are the governor and the eight lawmakers loyal to him.
