APC Lawmakers hit back at Fayose, blame Governor of rising crime rate

Fayose
No fewer than 19 All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmakers in Ekiti State have asked ‎Governor Ayodele Fayose to stop deceiving Ekiti people on the incessant activities of criminals in the state, saying the governor himself should be blamed as the author of criminal activities through his unbecoming behaviour that encourages crimes to thrive in the state.

Reacting to a media report by the governor's media aide, Lere Olayinka, accusing the lawmakers of frustrating the security measures by the governor to stem criminal activities, the lawmakers in a statement issued ‎by Speaker Adewale Omirin's Special Adviser on Media, Wole Olujobi, said the governor was the one encouraging crimes to thrive through unbecoming conduct in the running of government since assumption of office.

"Even before he became the governor, Ekiti State witnessed a heavy influx of criminals to the state. In government, importation of thugs was reported in the media. The thugs were reportedly joined by the escapees of the Ado-Ekiti jail break and were quartered in the Adesua‎ Lodge of the Government House," the statement noted, adding:

"‎Ekiti people and Nigerians also read when the media reported that the governor specially requested that the policemen that helped him in the attacks on his opponents between 2003 and 2006 be posted back to Ekiti State.

"It is important to note that his current ADC, Gbenga Timothy Joseph, and other officers now working for the governor, were once indicted for their alleged involvement in the political killings in Ekiti. The DSS security panel set up by former President Olusegun Obasanjo specifically recommended that Gbenga Timothy Joseph and other policemen now working for the governor, should face criminal prosecution for their roles‎ in political killings. They were also recommended to be transferred out of Ekiti State in that 2005 security report.

"Since their arrival in Ekiti after the governor requested for their services, criminal activities, including night visits and attacks on the opponents, have increased," the statement noted.
The statement added: "The governor refused to fund security agencies like former Governor Kayode Fayemi did to fight crimes. Instead, the governor's personal security vote was increased to N200 million monthly while streetlights in the state capital are now between 6.30pm and 10.30pm. Fayemi made it available between 6.30pm and 6.30 am, which helped greatly to fight crimes."

Olujobi said it was mischievous for Olayinka to blame APC leaders for the killings of those he listed in his press release when he had few years ago accused ‎Fayose of the same crimes.
"Evidently overtaken by a convenient collapse of memory, Olayinka is blaming  the killing on January 3, 2009 of‎ Kehinde Fasuba in Ado-Ekiti and murder on August 2, 2009 of three officers of the State Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), SP Mohammed Manua, CPL Wasiu Olatunbosun and CPL Simeon Obadero at Fajuyi Park area on APC leaders.

"It is also a marvel that Olayinka is claiming that APC leaders were responsible for the kidnap and killing on August 3, 2009  of former Trade Union Congress (TUC) Chairman, Barrister R.K. Olaiya and his wife, Barrister Franca Olaiya, Chief Olayode Olusola and two others who were kidnapped in Ikole-Ekiti.

The statement insisted that there was indeed a plot to kidnap the lawmakers to stall the governor's impeachment, saying that no amount of distractions and mischief can cover the evil plan to put the state in chaos.
