Snapchat co-founder Evan Spiegel, 24, the youngest billionaire on earth- See who else made the 2015 Forbes Billionaires List
by Rachel Ogbu
This year’s Forbes Billionaires List was filled with quite a few shocking and impressive firsts with 46 people on the list aged under 40.
The annual list came out this week revealing Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg as top of the richest young people in the world moving up 5 spots from his 17th position last year and becoming for his first time ranked among the world’s 20 richest but he still wasn’t as rich as new comer Evan Spiegel, 24, co-founder of photo- messaging app Snapchat who is officially the youngest billionaire on the planet.
According to Forbes: California, driven by Silicon Valley tech companies, has spawned 23 new billionaires, including cofounders of car-hailing service Uber cofounders Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp, and their first employee Ryan Graves. Elizabeth Holmes, who runs blood-testing firm Theranos, debuts on the global list as the youngest self-made woman at age 31. The state now has 131 individuals with 10-figure net worths, more than any other country besides China and the U.S.
But down the ladder was Aliko Dangote of Nigeria, who dropped from $25 billion last year to $14.7 billion majorly because of a weaker Nigerian currency and shrinking demand for cement, however he still retains the title of Africa’s richest man.
Next in line from Nigeria is Mike Adenuga at 393 with $4.2 Billion, then business woman, Folorunsho Alakija at 941 with $2 Billion, Femi Otedola at 1741 with $1 Billion and Abdulsamad Rabiu at 1741 with $1 Billion.
Bill Gates remains the richest person in the world, a title he’s held for 16 of the past 21 years.
