–The Portuguese might be struggling on the pitch
but is taking social media by storm as he
overtakes singer Shakira with 107 million likes
Cristiano Ronaldo has claimed yet another
prestigious accolade – by becoming the most
liked person on Facebook.
The Portuguese winger, 30, has overtaken singer
Shakira at the top of the charts, as he has
totalled up to 107million likes on the social
network.
Ronaldo is now approximately 29million likes
ahead of Barcelona rival Lionel Messi.
Reigning world player of the year Ronaldo is now
about 5,000 likes ahead of Shakira, the wife of
Gerard Pique.
And Ronaldo is 24million likes ahead of his
employers, Real Madrid, who sit in 11th place in
the ‘likes’ league with 83million. Barcelona pipped
Madrid to tenth.
But it is not just on Facebook where Ronaldo is
one of the most liked players. He is the most
followed sports person on Twitter, with 34million
– a good million ahead of closest competitor
Kaka.
The feat comes, however, in the middle of a sticky
patch of form for the three time Ballon d’Or
winner. He has failed to impress, along with his
team, in a difficult 2015 so far.
From initially dominating La Liga, they now sit in
second place behind rivals Barcelona, while they
only just edged into the quarter-finals of the
Champions League, after losing 4-3 at home to
Schalke but winning 5-4 on aggregate.
